The 1990s film Beethoven is responsible for making the St. Bernard breed infamous. Although they can be trained, their playful nature makes this more difficult. Saint Bernards are very gentle with children, but their enormous size makes it nearly impossible for them not to run over everything and anyone in their path. They make great family dogs, but their size makes them very difficult for people with small children.
